Ten Seconds of Courage

Hi Friends,
Have you ever seen a sunset that completely stopped you in your tracks?
The kind that makes you pause mid-sentence, reach for your phone, or just stand there soaking it in?
The kind that makes you pause mid-sentence, reach for your phone, or just stand there soaking it in?
Last week, that was me.
I was scrolling through Instagram when I came across the most breathtaking sunset; a warm orange glow melting into the lake, soft reflections dancing across the water. It felt peaceful and powerful all at once. And immediately, I thought… I need to paint this.
The photo was taken by Collin Makoto of The Scenic South. We actually connected last year when I hosted a fall giveaway for my pumpkin patch painting; he was the winner. Since then, we’ve quietly cheered each other on from our corners of the internet.
So I decided to be brave.
I sent him a message asking if I could use his photo as a reference for a painting. I half expected a polite no. But instead, he was enthusiastic and excited to see what I would create.
When the painting was finished, I shared it with him before posting it publicly and asked if he’d want to collaborate on a giveaway.
He was all in.
It reminded me of something I think we all need to hear: sometimes it only takes ten seconds of courage.

Of course, there’s always a chance the answer could be no. But what’s the worst that really happens? You’re exactly where you already were. And sometimes… the answer is yes, and something beautiful unfolds.
So if there’s someone you’ve been wanting to connect with, or something you’ve been hesitating to try; take the ten seconds. You never know where it might lead.
The painting above is the one we’re giving away. If you’d love to have it hanging in your home, make sure to check out the Instagram post below and enter. We’ll be choosing a winner on Friday!
And speaking of romance and a little mystery…
My Dark Romance / Phantom of the Opera inspired soap collection launches March 2nd. Think dreamy florals layered with deep, mysterious wood notes; romantic, dramatic, and just a little haunting in the best way. These are my favorite fragrances I’ve ever created.
As always, being a Monday Musings subscriber comes with perks… so keep an eye on your inbox next week for a little bonus just for you.
I hope your week feels inspired, brave, and full of tiny moments that take your breath away.
With love,
Megan
