Sweaters, Crisp Air... and Dry Skin?

Sweaters, Crisp Air... and Dry Skin?

Hi Friends,

I hope you had a wonderful first week of October. The air is feeling crisp, and I’m savoring every moment of it. I love these early autumn days when I can finally pull out my sweaters and take peaceful walks to watch the leaves change.

I love this time of year but unfortunately my skin doesn't! I’ve had sensitive skin and eczema for as long as I can remember, and it always flares up when the air turns cool and dry. I wanted to find lotions and soaps that still carried those cozy, seasonal scents I love without all the harsh chemicals in mainstream skincare. When I couldn’t find what I was looking for, I decided to create my own.

If your skin also struggles when the temperatures drop, here are a few tips that have really helped me:

Switch to a butter-based moisturizer.
Light lotions don’t provide enough hydration once the air gets dry. Look for body butters with shea butter, cocoa butter, or plant oils like jojoba and sweet almond; ingredients that lock in moisture and strengthen your skin barrier. (My body butters include all of these—check them out here!)

Use lukewarm—not hot—water.
I love a long, steamy shower as much as anyone, but hot water can strip away your skin’s natural oils. Stick to warm water and shorter showers to help keep your skin balanced.

Skip harsh scrubs and strong fragrances.
Over-exfoliating or using heavily perfumed products can irritate sensitive skin. Gentle is best this time of year.

Stay hydrated from within.
Don’t forget that hydration starts on the inside! Keep sipping water or herbal tea throughout the day to help your skin stay supple.

Fall and winter are all about slowing down and nourishing ourselves inside and out. Taking a few extra minutes to care for your skin can be a small, grounding ritual that helps you feel calm and cared for through the colder months.
A little treat for you: enjoy 15% off any body butter in my shop with code BODYBUTTER15.

Wishing you a cozy and restorative week,
Megan
