One Last Summer Adventure

Hi Friends,
Can you believe August is already slipping away? It feels like the month just began, and now we’re headed straight into September. Here in Washington, we’ve been in the middle of a heat wave, so I have to admit - I’m looking forward to cooler weather, cozy days, and the start of the “-ber” months.
This past weekend I stepped out of the studio for something different: a plein air painting competition with other local artists. If you’re not familiar, plein air is the practice of painting outside, using only what’s in front of you - no photo references, just the living, shifting world.
Painting outdoors brings a unique set of challenges - the wind flipping papers, the sun in your eyes, the light and shadows changing before you can capture them. It’s not always easy, but that’s part of the magic. Even when I find myself second-guessing or fussing over details, painting in the moment helps me slow down, really look, and see the world in a new way.
When the painting was finished, it went up on display at the Pt. Ruston Market for the weekend’s Art Walk alongside a few of my other pieces that are currently up for auction. The auction closes this evening, so if you’d like to take a peek, you can check it out here:
As we wrap up summer, I encourage you to carve out a little time to try something new - whether it’s picking up a fresh skill or stretching yourself in a creative way. The process itself can be just as rewarding as the result.
And a little teaser before I sign off: round two of my fall collection is almost here! 🍂 Think body butters, perfume sprays, and a cozy surprise to kick off September. I can’t wait to share it all with you soon.
With gratitude,
Megan
