No AC? Here's How I Stay Cool & Calm This Sumemr
Share
Hi friends,
I hope your weekend brought you a few moments of rest and ease - even if it was just five quiet minutes to yourself. It’s been getting hot here in Washington, and I’ve been especially loving the cooler evenings lately. There’s something magical about that golden hour breeze after a long summer day.
Fun fact: I live in a house that’s over 100 years old - and like many homes in the Pacific Northwest, it doesn’t have air conditioning! Most of the year, we don’t really need it, but during these hotter stretches, I’ve had to get creative to stay cool and comfortable. Here are a few things that have been helping me:
💡 Close the blinds
Keeping the shades drawn on the sunniest windows during the day makes a huge difference. It helps trap the cool air inside and keep the heat out.

🌬 Let in the evening air
Once the sun goes down, I throw open the windows to let that cool breeze roll in—or better yet, I spend time outside soaking it up.

🚿 Cold evening showers
I love winding down with a cool shower before bed. It’s refreshing, calming, and the perfect way to wash off a sticky day. Bonus: pair it with one of my favorite handcrafted soaps for a real treat. Click here to shop soaps!

💧 Stay hydrated
This one’s obvious, but still essential! I’ve been drinking tons of water and adding electrolytes when I want a little extra boost.

I hope these simple rituals help you stay cool, grounded, and calm through the rest of summer. We’re getting so close to fall - and just imagining those crisp, cozy evenings has been helping me survive these hotter days.
And speaking of fall... the photo above is a little sneak peek of what’s coming to the shop soon 🍂 I can’t wait to share more with you.
Stay cool & calm,
Megan
