From Sensitive Skin to Soothing Scents: My Soapmaking Journey

 

I hope you had a lovely weekend and a joyful Summer Solstice! Did you get to soak up the extra daylight? Here in Washington, the first day of summer felt more like the first day of fall—cloudy skies, 50-degree weather, and a steady drizzle. Honestly, it was the perfect excuse to stay in and make a batch of my cozy fall soaps (coming this August!).

 

This week, I wanted to share a little of my story—how I fell in love with soapmaking and why it means so much to me.

 

I've always had sensitive skin and have dealt with eczema on and off for most of my life. Finding skincare products that didn’t dry me out but still smelled lovely was a constant struggle. While many natural products are effective, they often lack the fragrance variety or visual charm I craved.

 

I’ve always adored the little luxury of buying a beautifully made artisan soap—something that not only felt amazing on my skin but also turned a simple shower into a comforting ritual. That small act of care made me feel grounded, cared for, and restored.

 

Then one day, I impulsively bought a soapmaking kit... and something clicked. What started as a curiosity quickly became a full-on passion for the art of soapmaking and blending scents. Eventually, that spark turned into Megan Yuly Art & Apothecary, where I now get to combine my love of homemade body care with my soft pastel paintings.
