A Gentle Start to the New Year
Share
Hi Friends,
Happy first Monday of the new year!
Last week felt a little disorienting for me, I couldn’t keep my days straight, and part of me is honestly looking forward to settling back into a rhythm. I’ve also been fighting a pretty nasty cold and am finally starting to feel like myself again.
Even though it’s only a few days into 2026, getting sick really threw me off.
I’m usually someone who loves to hit the ground running in January. Before the new year even arrived, I was already putting Christmas away, organizing the house, and making big plans. Then… I got sick. And suddenly I was firmly planted on the couch for nearly a week. I felt annoyed, exhausted, and a little defeated. All that momentum I’d built up felt like it disappeared overnight.
But instead of beating myself up about it, I realized maybe getting sick was the reminder I needed to slow down.
There’s so much pressure at the end of one year and the start of another to accomplish goals, tie up loose ends, and jump into productivity mode. But the truth is, that pace just isn’t sustainable. It’s why so many New Year’s resolutions fizzle out by February. Trying to do everything perfectly, all at once, almost always leads to burnout.
So if you’re feeling that same pressure; to accomplish all the things, to have it all figured out; consider this your permission slip to pause. We’re still in winter. This is the season of cozy comforts, rest, and a little hibernation.
There’s no rush to have your year mapped out. Take your time. Let yourself breathe. Move forward when it feels right.
I hope you have a gentle, nourishing week ahead.
